The Es:Ep ratio chart previously found under Charts has been incorporated into the Parameter Distributions chart.
We have recently updated the JavaScript library mxjs/base/algorithms/filter_volumeset.js
to be more efficient. If you are using this library and call the flag_members()
method of volume sets directly, then you will need to update your code slightly. If you don't call flag_members()
directly then you'll automatically get the efficiency updates when you upgrade without needing to do anything, and you can stop reading now :)
A new app has appeared in the Rock Mass Data Analyser suite: the Geotechnical Domains Delimiter. This app allows you to create your own geotechnical domains; either from boundaries (e.g. lithological contacts or fault planes) or volumes (e.g. lithologies, domains, selection boxes).
A new window has been added to the Hazard Assessment app (Figure 1). The sensitivity analysis aims to quantify the effect of the variation of the input parameters on the hazard. These analyses can also help the user to determine the optimal settings to use for many of the parameters. This window allows the user to vary only one parameter at the time.
The upgrade to mXrap version 5.16 introduced a variety of changes and improvements to marker styles. The changes can be separated into general updates which are relevant to all users and developer updates which are relevant to app developers who create and customise marker styles.
Energy and moment are two independent measures of the strength of a seismic event. Their physical meaning and how they are calculated was described in a previous blog post. Analysis of the relationship between the energy and moment of events can provide insight into seismic sources. For example, blasts or ore pass noise, falsely processed as real events, tend to have distinct zones on an energy-moment chart. In general, events with higher-than-average energy are associated with high relative stress.
We have started rolling out a new version of the mXrap software and root folder. Software versions 5.9 and above include a few interface changes. The new version is available on the download site but DO NOT download it until someone from the mXrap team has upgraded your root folder. Several root folder changes need to be made simultaneously with the software upgrade. We will be in touch soon to arrange the upgrade (if we haven't already).
There have been some interface changes made to the mXrap software in versions 5.6.6 or later. The right-hand-side controls have had a bit of a face-lift and now there are separate coloured tabs for exporting, selections, annotations and clipping.
You can now measure distances in any 3D view in mXrap (version 5.6.0 or later) with the ruler tool in the Annotations tab. The "Annotations tool" training video goes through all the features and the operation. Most operations will probably be for the distance between two points, such as the event-to-survey distance below. You can also extend this to a multi-point ruler for measuring more complicated paths.
